Bijeljina continues to implement the sustainable development goals successfully

Mayor of Bijeljina Ljubiša Petrović and UNDP Resident Representative in BaH Steliana Nedera signed a Memorandum of Understanding, defining cooperation in several areas, with emphasis on energy efficiency.

“The signing of this Memorandum places Bijeljina among the successful local communities in BaH, because it includes funding and implementation of several projects, such as construction and reconstruction of LED public lighting, procurement of equipment in the field of culture and sports, construction of public green areas and project documentation in the field of environmental protection. The City of Bijeljina has committed to fund these projects with about 2.5 million BAM, while UNDP will add around 500,000 BAM,” said Mayor Petrović and thanked the UNDP for the cooperation so far and for their demonstrated social responsibility.

UNDP Resident Representative in BaH Steliana Nedera pointed out that the City of Bijeljina has a reputation of one of the champion cities when it comes to implementation of Agenda 2030 and the commitment to become the city of the future, and that she hopes that Bijeljina will be a model for other local communities in BaH.

“All our efforts are aimed at improving the lives of citizens. The Memorandum defines the cooperation with the City of Bijeljina in the next four years. It is the continuation of our cooperation which began in 2008. It will achieve the goals of two strategic documents of the City of Bijeljina: Development Strategy and Local Environmental Action Plan funded by the UNDP which plans a decrease in emissions of carbon-dioxide of the City of Bijeljina by 1.5 million tonnes until 2020,” added Steliana Nedera.
