Implementation of energy efficiency projects in Bijeljina

Bijeljina Mayor, Ljubiša Petrović, talked to the representative of the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) in BiH, Siniša Ubiparipović, about implementation of the Funding Agreement for the cooperation on implementation of the energy efficiency improvement project in the City of Bijeljina. The Agreement stipulates that BAM 2,480,000 will be provided by the City of Bijeljina, and BAM 465,000 by UNDP in order to fund the project activities.
The meeting was a continuation of cooperation for the implementation of the Agreement, for which the City of Bijeljina had paid BAM 2,000,000 for the replacement of existing light bulbs with modern LED lights for a part of public lighting. The procurement procedure will be implemented by UNDP.

In addition to the reconstruction of the part of public lighting, this document stipulates a preparation of a draft and final version of the strategy for incentive measures for small and medium sized enterprises, procurement of equipment for sports, educational and cultural institutions in the City of Bijeljina, a pilot project of energy efficiency improvement in the residential sector in the City of Bijeljina (replacement of fossil fuels boilers and replacement of old façades), preparation of the study for replacement of the coal boiler at the district heating plant for the gas or bio-mass boiler, preparation of a draft and final version of the waste management study, green logistic scheme, greening of the city using perennial plants, and preparation of the City of Bijeljina greening study through creation of new park areas.

In accordance with the 2030 Agenda, this is one of the agreements which should put Bijeljina onto the path of green development. This is a part of the effort of the City of Bijeljina to improve the environment in the local community, and to achieve cheaper and more efficient energy consumption.
